Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) is an award-winning, exemplary model evidence-based practice (EBP). It is a short-term, family-based therapeutic intervention that targets children and adolescents aged six to 18 years. BSFT was designed to eliminate or reduce behavior problem syndrome, including drug use, and to restructure problematic family interactions. The approach is based on the assumption that family-based interactions strongly influence how children behave and that targeting and improving maladaptive family interactions reduces the likelihood of symptomatic behavior. BSFT does not rely on family’s abilities to come into the session. Rather, BSFT provides specialized engagement strategies for bringing families into therapy.
